Six suspects have been arrested over the murder of a 55-year-old man in Chunnakam yesterday (7).
Police Media Unit said Chunnakam Police had been alerted last afternoon that a person had been tied up and was being assaulted in the Uduvil area. Officers had arrived at the location, released the victim from his bonds and admitted him to hospital. However, the victim had succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as a 55-year-old resident of Chunnakam.
Investigations have revealed that the victim had been having an affair with a 19-year-old female from the same area and a group of her relatives who had been angered over the affair had carried out the assault.
The relatives had also assaulted the young woman who was having an affair with the deceased. She is currently being treated at the Thelippalai Hospital.
Police have arrested six residents of Chunnakam aged between 23 and 48 years in connection with the incident. Further investigations are ongoing.
