The person who had been receiving treatment for injuries received after being hit by a vehicle carrying State Minister Sanath Nishantha has died at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Mohammed Siham, a father of two and resident of the Mullipuram fishing village.
He suffered serious injuries when his vehicle was hit by the motor vehicle carrying the state minister at a spot along the Puttalam-Kurunegala main road on October 15.
Both vehicles were traveling in the same direction at the time of the incident and police said the accident had occurred when the state minister's vehicle was trying to overtake the one driven by the deceased.
The victim was first admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital but was transferred to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital as his condition was serious. He underwent treatment at the Kurunegala Hospital's Intensive Care Unit for for 15 days before he succumbed to his injuries on October 30.
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased allege that the state minister has made no attempt to look into the welfare of the victim's family since the accident and say there is a danger of the education of his two children coming to a complete halt following his death.
