The Ministry of Environment has called for public views to reduce the human elephant conflict.
The decision had been taken during a meeting held between Deputy Minister of Environment, Anton Jayakody and the Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security, R. M Jayawardhana at the Wellawaya Divisional Secretary office, yesterday.
The meeting was held to discuss methods to control the human -elephant conflict within Monaragala district.
State officials, villagers took part in the meeting.
The ministry stated that the new government is carrying out a special program to mitigate the human elephant conflict, and had even allocated money for that within the 2025 budject proposals.
Recently a suspending elephant fence too was set up at Weerawila using new technology.
The meeting was also held to discuss of practical and scientific solutions for the prevailing human-elephant conflict.
