The house of a Sri Lanka Muslim Council (SLMC) MP who has been supporting the government was attacked in Kinniya after the ferry tragedy in which six persons were killed and 17 hospitalised.
The house of M.S. Thowfeek came under attack after a protest by the public who claimed that the delay in completing the renovation of the bridge across the lagoon resulted in the tragedy.
The ferry was used by the villagers as the bridge had not been completed.
MP Thowfeek, though in the SLMC has been supportive of the government in recent months. Heavy damages were caused to the MP’s house.
Earlier villages chanted slogans against the government blaming the ministers responsible for the completion of the project. State Minister Nimal Lanza had laid the foundation for the project.
