A 28-year-old motorcyclist died under tragic circumstances last evening when the rear wheel of a bus came off and hit his motorbike at Beliatta.
Police Media Unit said the incident occurred near the 7th Mile Post along the Dikwella-Beliatta Road. The rear wheel of the bus plying from Matara to Middeniya had suddenly broken off and struck the motorbike, which was heading towards Beliatta from Dikwella.
The incident caused the motorbike to topple and the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after being crushed under the rear wheel of the bus. He was rushed to the Dikwella Hathbodhiya Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased is a resident of Kudahilla, Beliatta. The body is currently at the morgue of the Hathbodhiya Hospital. The bus driver has been arrested and Beliatta police are conducting further investigations.
