The National People’s Power (NPP) won the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election by returning 15 members from a total of 30 represntatives in the council, today.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) won only six seats. the other seats were won by Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP) :3, Independent group :02, Podujana Eksath Nidhas Sandanaya (PENS) :01, Jathika Janatha Pakshaya (JJP): 01.
The Podujana Eksath Peramuna was backed by a SLFP faction which included former state minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna while the Podujana Eksath Nidhas Sandanaya was backed by former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawarena.
The Devena Parapura ((DP) party and the Janasatha Peramuna(JP) failed to secure any seats.
The total number of votes recived by the parties are as follows, NPP -17,295, SJB - 7,924, SLPP - 3,597 PAP - 2,612, Indipendent group 2,568, PENS - 1,350, JJP -521, DP -388, JP -50
