The Navy detected 65 water gel sticks(type of commercial explosive),18 non-electric detonators and a 155cm long safety fuse in a search operation carried out on 4 and 5 July in the lagoon of Allappiddi, Kayts and the beach area of Maniyanthottam, Ariyalai.
These items were seized while hidden in the sand of the beach and in between shrubs near the lagoon areas. These are used during illegal fishing activities and pose a serious threat to marine life. The cache of explosives has been kept in naval custody until they are handed over to authorities for onward legal action.
