Nearly 50 persons have been affected after strong winds that came with heavy rain caused severe damage to houses and property in the Karachchi area in Kilinochchi yesterday, the District Disaster Management Centre (DMC) office stated.
Strong winds tore off roofing sheets and uprooted trees in two villages. One woman was seriously injured after a roofing sheet torn off by the wind fell on her head.
The DMC office stated that those whose houses and property have been damaged are currently staying with relatives and efforts are underway to assess the damage and pay compensation for losses.
