Officer in Charge of Maharagama Police Chief Inspector H.H. Janakantha has been admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo after protestors toppled police barricades near Parliament premises yesterday, Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said.
According to him, the Police OIC who was critically injured had undergone a three hour surgery. He said special police teams have been deployed to arrest those involved in destruction of public property and obstructing police duties.
The Inter University Students Federation yesterday held a protest near Parliament complex against the controversial Kotelawala Defence University Bill. The protest took a violent turn resulting in several protestors being arrested after they attempted to enter by toppling police barricades.
