Office trains delayed after major train-container collision
An office train heading from Polgahawela to Ratmalana collided with a container lorry at Mirigama Wilwatte railway crossing leading to delays along the Giriulla-Mirigama line, railway department sources said.
The accident took place at 6.15 a.m. causing inconvenience for train commuters due to the unexpected accident.
The collision led to damages to the engine and wheels of the M11 office train also called the 'Fowzie train' while the heavily damaged container was dragged about 100 metres causing damage to signal lights, electricity poles and level crossing gates. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
