An attempt to abduct a woman ended in a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 17-year-old male in Dharmapuram, Kilinochchi last night (6).
Police Media Unit said a tipper truck carrying several persons had gone off the road and fallen into a canal after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
A male and a female who were in the vehicle had suffered serious injuries in the accident and were admitted to the Kilinochchi Hospital, whereupon the 17-year-old male succumbed to his injuries.
The teenager was among a group that had allegedly abducted the injured female who happened to be the girlfriend of one of the young men in the group, according to police.
The driver of the tipper truck and other occupants who were in the vehicle have fled. The truck had been taken into police custody and Kilinochchi Police are conducting further investigations.
