PM leaves to China, due to visit India as well

Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya   left to China last night to take part in a series of events and meetings.

The visit is taking place on arrangements made following a discussion between the Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong  and Foreign Affairs minister Vijitha Herath.

Earlier the Prime Minister was due to attend the Commonwealth meeting in Uganda, but considering the importance of the Chinese visit, Minister Herath had suggested that the Prime Minister undertakes the visit.

 Dr Amarasuriya will be in Beijing on Monday to attend the global women’s summit.

In Beijing , PM Amarasuirya will have a pivotal role among a number of state leaders, heads of governments, house speakers, vice-premiers and ministerial-level officials who are attending the summit.

In addition to President Xi Jinping, the Prime Minister will also meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang and senior members of the Communist Party of China and discuss bi-lateral relations.

From Beijing, she will fly to New Delhi to attend the NDTV World Summit 2025 where along with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi; she will be one of the main speakers. It will be her first official  visit to India.

The visit was coordinated by Minister Herath.

In New Delhi, at the NDTV World Summit 2025, she, along with PM Modi will be the only two serving Prime Ministers while two former Prime ministers Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom and Tony Abbott of Australia too will be in attendance.
