A Petition filed by retired Colonel W.M.R Wijesundara seeking a Supreme Court directive to postpone the Local Government election was takenup today and postponed until February 23.
Earlier in the day the Supreme Court which took up two petitions seeking an order to issue a directive to hold elections had noted that there was no necessity to give an order to hold the Local Government elections as the Elections Commission has already informed courts that it was prepared to hold the elections.
The two petitions were filed by Political parties. The petitioners included Lakshman Kiriella, Prof G.L.Peiris, Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Dayasiri Jayasekara.
