Police have opened investigations into a complaint of a ragging incident at Kelaniya University.
On October 31 at around 3PM, a second year student, when going to the gym for sports practice, after the end of lectures, was questioned about his appearance by a few seniors, where he was told to shave his hair and beard and not to wear wrist watches and shoes, but slippers instead.
However, the victim student had refused to comply with their demands, and was taken to the canteen and beaten on the face and body by the University seniors.
The victim student, lodging a complaint with Kiribathgoda Police, stated that seven seniors were present in the place of the incident and would be able to identify them if seen again, although he does not know them by name.
The victim student was produced to the Coroner of the Ragama Hospital while the Kiribathgoda Police are conducting further investigation to arrest the suspects involved.
