Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) yesterday (17) recovered a T-56 assault rifle and a magazine containing 20 T-56 live rounds hidden near a telephone pole next to a marsh land in Moronthuduwa.
Based on investigations made thus far, police believe that the weapon was the same one used to target a three-wheeler driver in Ahungalla on October 12, the Police Media Division stated.
The CCD and Moronthuduwa Police are conducting investigations to identify who had hidden the weapon at the location.
