The mother and brother in law of a police constable who helped a notorious underworld gang member to try to escape from the CID headquarters have been arrested by the Police.
The Policeman himself is evading arrest after the failed attempt of Nadun Chinthaka alias Harak Kata to escape from the CID Headquarters.
The two family members were arrested on suspicion of their involvement in helping the gang leader. They had made use of a vehicle provided by Harak Kata.
Though there were reports that the policeman had escaped from the country, the Immigration Department has said that he had not used his passport to leave the country.
Investigations are underway to arrest the policeman.
