The cabinet has approved a proposal for a project to improve the water quality in the Beira Lake.
The proposal was brought by President Ranil Wickremasinghe in the capacity of Finance Minister and the Minister of Urban Development and Housing to carry out a pilot project for a period of five years.
The cabinet approval was given on July 17 to improve the water quality with the use of modern technology such as Micro-nano Bubble Technology, Carbon Fiber Biofilm technology and environmentally friendly enzymes.
The proposal was presented by Groepo Pte. Ltd. (GPL), a Singaporean company with Japanese ownership.
The guidance of a team of experts consisting of experts on water quality from universities around the country, representatives of relevant testing institutions and other related institutions will be given to take a decision on the further implementation of the project, based on the results achieved.
