Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces along with Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts will occasionally experience showers or thundershowers today (9), according to the Department of Meteorology.
The Met dept. further predicts that moderately heavy showers of about 50mm are very likely at several areas in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces plus in Puttalam, Galle, and Matara districts.
In addition, showers or thundershowers have been forecasted in many parts of Batticaloa and Ampara districts during the evening or night.
Several spells of showers may pass off in Anuradhapura and Mannar districts.
Northern, North-central, North-western provinces, Western slopes of the central hills as well as Trincomalee and Hambantota districts are expected to witness moderately high winds of about 40-45 KMPH intermittently.
Showers or thundershowers are on the cards at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
The forecast further indicated that South-westerly winds of about 30-40 KMPH may advance into 55-60 KMPH irregularly in the marine areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai.
In the meantime, the wind speed may also accelerate towards 45-50 KMPH on occasion in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
Turbulent waters are expected in sea areas off the coast widening from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai as well as from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota periodically.
Moreover, strong gusts of wind and stormy seas are also foreseen during thundershowers transiently.
