Due to the measles outbreak inside the prison, Vavuniya restrictions have been placed for a period of two weeks, according to the officials.
Accordingly,it was reported that taking the prisoners outside for court appearances and allowing visitors inside the prison have both been temporarily suspended.
Also the disease is rapidly spreading due to the lack of space inside the buildings.
However, health authorities and Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have taken action to immunize both prisoners and prison staff.
At the Vavuniya Prison, more than 400 inmates are being held while 85 prison guards are on duty.
Meanwhile, steps were taken to transfer the newly sentenced prisoners to the Anuradhapura prison.
