To mitigate the adverse effect on the education of vulnerable school children, the government has decided to provide an allowance to assist the purchase of school stationery at the beginning of 2025 school year.
The allowance of Rs.6000 per child from Aswesuma families will be paid through the Aswesuma bank accounts.
The household survey on the adverse impact of the economic crisis -2023 conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics states that the economic crisis significantly impacted children’s education.
The survey revealed that 55 % of school children have been adversely affected with the percentage higher in rural and estate areas.
The survey found that 53.2 % of the affected school children completely stopped or reduced the purchase of stationery while 26.1% resorted to reissuing used stationery.
