SI A Sub Inspector arrested over an incident where a 15 year old school boy was injured in a shooting incident in Thihagoda, Matara is due to be produced in courts today, Senior Deputy inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said.
Police initially claimed that it was an accidental fire, but eyewitnesses claimed that it was deliberate after the officer had held the boy by his neck.
SDIG Rohana who visited the scene last night assured the family that a full investigation will be held into the incident while the SI has already been taken into custody and interdicted from service.
Meanwhile representatives of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka Regional office in Matara visited the scene to open their investigations today morning.
Police said they had given chases to a threewheeler which was zig-zagging on the road and when they gave chase to and stopped some of them in the vehicle had escaped. The police officer had held the 15 year old boy and an attempt was made by the driver to rescues leading to a scuffle and the weapon going off.
However, a student in the vehicle has contradicted the claim.

The student is undergoing treatment at the Karapitiya hospital.
