Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe who served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army assumed duties as the new Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army.
He has also been acting in place of the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Headquarters at Kosgama as well as Commander of the Security Forces Headquarters in Mullaitivu.
He is the son of Former Army Commander, General Hamilton Wanasinghe who was also the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment.
