The Special Task Force (STF) held a pirith chanting ceremony today (March 1) in commemoration of their 40th anniversary.
The religious activities were held at the STF headquarters, with the pirith chanting beginning at 7 PM yesterday and ending with an alms giving today morning.
The Commander of the STF, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Varuna Jayasundara participated in this event.
Religious activities were also held in STF camps throughout the island as well.
With the emergence of the southern insurgency in 1971 and separatist groups in the North and East, the Special Striking Force (SSF) precursor to the STF was established on March 1, 1983.
