Trade Union actions are suspended

All trade unions of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have decided to suspend their trade union action launched on September 4, following discussions held yesterday, October 13, with Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody, who agreed to the unions’ 24 proposals and promised a written assurance, expected later today.

 

No increase in electricity tariff

The Chairman of the PUCSL Prof K P L Chandralal announced that existing electricity tariffs for this quarter will not be increased, despite the CEB requesting an increase.

 

Shasheendra received bail

Former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa received bail from the Colombo Magistrate’s Court. He was arrested and remanded by the Bribery Commission on allegations of offenses under the Public Property Act for illegally obtaining Rs. 8,850,000 as compensation for the destruction of a building located on a state-owned property. 

 

Manusha received anticipatory bail

An anticipatory bail application by former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara was dismissed by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court. The Bribery Commission is investigating alleged irregularities in the process of sending workers to Israel for agricultural employment during the previous government.

 

Former Navy Commander Nishantha Ulugetenna gets bail

Former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Admiral (Retired) Nishantha Ulugetenne received bail from the Kurunegala High Court. He was arrested in connection with the disappearance of a detainee.

 

Nepal CID arrested murder suspect

Ishara Sewwandi wanted in connection with the murder of underworld figure Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne inside a courtroom in Hulftsdorp, has been arrested in Nepal by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in a joint operation with the Nepali police.

 

A special meeting for online restoration 

The Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy has scheduled a special meeting to expedite the restoration of online government services that were disrupted, impacting eight departments. 

 

Colombo National Hospital's  MRI scanners non-operational  

The Government Radiological Technologists’ Association (GRTA) has stated that three MRI scanners at the Colombo National Hospital are currently non-operational. Only one MRI scanner is currently functioning at the hospital.
