Two large ganja plantations grown illegally inside the Hambegamuwa Forest Reserve were discovered yesterday (10) by the Police Special Task Force (STF) through surveillance carried out using drone technology.
Using the drones, the STF found and raided one ganja plantation with 187, 857 ganja plants. A 35-year-old suspect who is resident in Pinnawala was arrested during the raid. The STF also discovered a second ganja plantation inside the reserve that contained 6725 ganja plants.
The STF handed over 20 of the ganja plants as samples to the Hambegamuwa Police Station for further investigations. The rest of the ganja plants were burned and destroyed where they were discovered, the STF stated.
