An unidentified person had fired at the room where the Chief incumbent of Mangalaramaya, Ven Ampitiye Sumana thera was residing at the temple in Batticaloa, in the early hours of today, Temple sources said
The monk had not been harmed.
A police team is currently investigating the incident.
Temple sources said that they suspect a relative of the monk of carrying out the attack.
The final rites of veteran broadcaster, writer, and lyricist Nirmala de Alwis will be held today at Peradeniya.
