The Meteorology Department forecasted that the Showery weather conditions in the island is expected to increase in the next few days starting from today.
They explained that Intertropical Convergence Zone (where winds from the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere converge) and the atmospheric disturbances vicinity of the island are currently influencing the weather over the island.
According to them Showers or thundershowers will occur at most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.
Heavy rain falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-western provinces and in Ampara district.
The general public are requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Metrology Department issuing a weather forecast for sea areas explained Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.
