The convener of the Inter-University Bhikku Federation, Ven Galwewa Siridamma Thera was released on bail today.
The Ven thera who was actively engaged in antigovernment protests were detained for 89 days prevention of terrorism act (PTA). Along with him the Convener of the Inter-University Student's Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige too was detained.
He was released on two personal bails of Rs. 500,000/- each when he was produced befotre Colombo Additional Magistrate T. N. L. Mahwatte.
The Thera was given bail following the advice of the Attorney General.
Thera had been ordered to appear at the Criminal Investigation Department once a month. Apart from that the ven thera was barred from travelling overseas and was not allowed to make any comment on the legal matter to the media.
He was also warned that his bail would be negated if he behaves violently.
Repeated protests were held during past few weeks by IUSF and activists calling the release of the Thera and the Convener of the IUSF.
