Police carried out a special operation yesterday (10) to check whether the general public was following health guidelines to prevent COVID-19.
Police said that they initiated the two-hour operation within the Western province by deploying 437 officers, adding that the officers inspected buses if they were exceeding the number of passengers and whether the commuters were using masks properly. Apart from that police were also urging air-conditioned buses to open shutters allowing fresh air circulation.
Police were also observing whether shop owners were following health guidelines when allowing customers into their establishments.
Police said that they inspected 998 buses, 207 air-conditioned buses and 1290 retail shops as well as pharmacies.
During the operation police have detected 369 buses, 67 air-conditioned buses, as well as 581 shops which had not followed COVID-19 health guidelines. The police added that they gave strict advice and educated the public of their social responsibility to help stop the spread of the pandemic.
