Sri Lanka's 75th Independence Day was celebrated today with the main event being a military parade held at Galle Face under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Eight foreign dignitaries were also in attendance in addition to diplomats of foreign missions based in Colombo.
The President did not address the nation during the ceremony, and the only main event was the military parade and a parachute display by members of the armed forced and police.
A heavy security cordon was thrown around Galle Face for the event, with roads leading in and out of the area cordoned off by armed forced personnel until the conclusion of the event. Armed forces and police personnel continue to be out in force in the city amid reports that several protests are to take place in Colombo today.
