The Vice-captain of the Kalutara Tissa College cricket team has been hospitalized following a clash shortly after the big match against Kalutara Maha Vidyalaya at Surrey Grounds in Maggona on Sunday (April 30), Police said.
The clash occurred after Kalutara Maha Vidyalaya won the match in the last over and the spectators from both schools entered the grounds. The injured student had been assaulted with a cricket bat.
The victim had sustained injuries to his head. He is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Nagoda, Kalutara hospital and is to be transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for urgent surgery to be carried out, hospital sources said.
Payagala police is carrying out a special investigation regarding this incident.
