Six suspects have been arrested for defrauding money by impersonating officials of the Land Reforms Commission, the Ridigama Police said today (December 23).
A dispute had occurred yesterday at a temple in Ridigama, where a group of people impersonating officials of the Land Reform Commission had claimed that they would give land and had defrauded money from the local residents.
Accordingly, two female and four male suspects were arrested along with the van which they came in with pasted stickers of the Land Reform Commission.
The female suspects are aged 30 and 33 and are residents of Potuhera and Dodangaslanda areas while the male suspects are aged 27, 48 and 65 and are residents of Ibbagamuwa, Mahawela and Kurunegala areas.
Three of the suspects had come wearing t-shirts with the name of the Land Reform Commission and a complaint has been made that they defrauded Rs. 100,000 from a person claiming to give land.
The Ridigama police are conducting further investigations.
