India reiterated once again that the ethnic conflict should be resolved through a power sharing mechanism as Sri Lanka committed in order to ensure a lasting peace and ethnic harmony in the country.
Visiting India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar said yesterday during a joint press conference along with his Sri Lankan counterpart Minister Dinesh Gunawardena that it is in Sri Lanka’s own interest that the expectations of the Tamil people for equality, justice, peace and dignity within a united Sri Lanka are fulfilled.
Governor Purohit also emphasized that this is an important statement, signifying the concern of the Indian government towards their Tamil sisters and brothers in Sri Lanka.
"India's External Affairs Minister has unequivocally stated the Indian position on the 13th Amendment. His words are sure to be welcomed by the people of Tamil Nadu. His statement is in the spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's own untiring efforts for the welfare of the Tamil population in Sri Lanka," the statement said.
