Three persons, aged 75, 76 and 83 died from COVID-19 complications yesterday (16) increasing the death toll from the virus to 453.
The deceased are residents of Wattala, Walapane and Nuwaraeliya. The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of the Spread of COVID 19 said 83 percent of COVID deaths (372) are those above 50 years of age. Out of the total 199 deaths are those above 70 years.
Meanwhile, 492 COVID positive cases were reported on Tuesday increasing the number of positive cases from the second wave to 76,905.
The Epidemiology Department of the Health Ministry said 366,907 persons have been vaccinated against the virus since January 29 this year. On Tuesday, 12,555 were vaccinated with majority in the high risk Western province.
