Health Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe has appointed a three-member committee to investigate the necessary security and facilities to staff at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
The committee chaired by Wayamba Provincial Director of Health Services Specialist Dr. M. K. Indika Kumara includes health ministry administrative official U. K . Croos, and investigations official J. de Silva.
The committee was formed in response to the attack on a doctor at the hospital earlier this week. The Health Ministry stated in a press release that significant administrative shortcomings had been identified in the hospital over the past few years but nothing was done to correct them.
The Ministry stated that reports indicated the failure to properly manage and provide security and facilities to staff and assets had led to the deterioration. The newly appointed committee will therefore investigate and report on the matter to the Ministry with its recommendations by March 24 2025.
