Top Softlogic Finance official remanded over fraud
Priyantha Wijesekara, Director / Chief Executive Officer of Softlogic Finance has been remanded till October 27 after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Kosala Senadheera in connection with financial fraud.
The suspect had been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on charges of defrauding an elderly couple and was produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court.
Meanwhile, issuing a statement, Softlogic Finance PLC stated that Mr Priyantha Wijesekara "will cease to perform duties as the Director / Chief Financial Officer of the Company with immediate effect."
"The circumstances relating to Mr. Wijesekara ceasing to hold office are personal to him and have no direct or indirect connection whatsoever with the Company, its operations or any other part of the Softlogic Group," the statement stressed.
"Ms. Ivon Brohier, the Company's current Chief Financial Officer, will, subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, assume such duties as the "Acting Chief Executive Officer" of the Company, thereby ensuring the smooth and uninterrupted operations of the Company," the statement further revealed.
