The Navy seized 8kg of gold off the Kalpitiya lagoon area earlier today(12).
Two persons in a dinghy boat believed to be used to smuggle the gold were arrested.
A total of 8kg and 450g were found in four parcels in possession of the suspects in the dinghy boat.
The suspects were identified as residents of Mandalakuda in Kalpitiya, aged 37 and 42. The seized items together with the suspects were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for further legal action.
