A committee comprising the President, Prime Minister and the Minister of Buddhism, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security and Mass Media has been appointed to provide guidence and supervision for the holding of the 77th Independence Day celebrations on February 4, 2025.
A separate monitoring committee comprising the chief officers of all relevant ministries and departments, including tri forces and police has also been appointed with the aim of enabling the organisation of the Independence Day celebrations in grand manner, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Vijitha Herath stated.
The proposal to appoint the two committees was presented by the Prime Minister in her capacity as the Minister of Justice, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, Local Government and Labour.
