Two persons who posed off as policemen and relieved a man of his jewellery and cash have been arrested by the Angulana Police.
The two men who had taken a car on a rental basis had ordered the man to get into the vehicle claiming he was wanted by the Police for the possession of narcotics.
They had taken the man to Egoda Uyana and taken his jewellery, mobile phone and wallet.
The car they used was a car rented out.
The two men later had driven to Kande Viharaya in Aluthgama .
Police said, the two suspects were apprehended following a complaint received from the victim.
One of the suspects was a heroin addict and the other was an inmate who broke out of prison. They have been identified as residents of Panadura, Pinwatta and Egoda Uyana area who are 26-28 years of age.
The stolen belongings that include, gold jewellery, mobile phones that have been sold to individuals and the Wagon R car that has been used for the robbery have been taken into police custody.
The arrested were produced before the Magistrate Court today.
The investigation related to this matter was conducted by Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Mangala Dehideniya of the Mount Lavinia division under the supervision of Mr. Tharindu Anuranga, Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Moratuwa division.
