Two nabbed with ’Ice’ worth Rs. 30 million

Two suspects who were smuggling 2 kilograms of 'Ice' with a street value of nearly Rs. 30 million were taken into custody last evening at Sinhakudirippuwa in Kalpitiya. 

The suspects were transporting the drugs inside a three-wheeler from Kalpitiya to Colombo when officers of the Special Investigation Unit of the Kalpitiya Police intercepted the three-wheeler following a tip-off. 

One of the arrested suspects has been identified as a leading drug dealer based in Mattakkuliya, Colombo while the other suspect is a resident of Thoradiya, Kalpitiya, police said. 

Police believe the drugs had been smuggled to Kalpitiya via sea from India using fishing boats. It is believed the racket had been operating for some time. 

The arrested suspects also had about Rs. 20, 000 in cash and two mobile phones in their possession in addition to the drugs. They have been taken into police custody along with the suspects, who due to be produced in court after questioning.
