Two suspects who smuggled 921 kilos of shark fins and 239 kilos of sea cucumbers had been detained by the navy today.
The navy said that the two suspects were detected in Serakkuliya, Puttalam as a result of a special search operation.
The detection of the two suspect were made after The naval personnel engaged in the search operation spotted two suspicious lorries parked in the locality. Within the lorry there were 04 sacks filled with 239kg of sea cucumber and 19 more sacks stuffed with 921kg shark fins which were made ready to be transferred. Incidentally, the smuggled consignments.
The both suspects who drove the two lorries were taken into the naval custody. The suspects were identified as aged 41 and 48 residents of Puttalam and Aluth Eluwankulama area.
The navy said that the two suspects, two lorries as well as consignments of sea cucumber and shark fins would be handed over the customs to take legal action.
