The final rites of Atamasthaanadhipathi, the Most Venerable Dr. Pallegama Sirinivasa Nayaka Thera will be held at 2.30pm on Saturday (October 22) in Anuradhapura, North-Central Province Governor Maheepala Herath said.
Atamasthaanadhipathi and Custodian and Chief Priest of the Mahabodhi Most Venerable Dr. Pallegama Sirinivasa Nayaka Thera passed away yesterday while receiving treatment at a private hospital. He was 69 years old at the time of his death.
He was also the Chief Sanghanayaka of the North-Central Province.
Born in 1953 in the village of Pallegama in Matale, he was ordained as a monk in 1968. The Thera received Upasampada from the Malwathu Maha Vihara in 1975. Dr. Sirinivasa Thera obtained his PhD from the Kelaniya University in 1983.
Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed North-Central Province Governor Maheepala Herath and Buddhasasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickramanayaka to coordinate arrangements for the full state-sponsored funeral of the late Nayaka Thera, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.
