Former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe placed his deposit with the Election Commission as the candidate of the National Democratic Front for he upcoming Presidential election today scheduled to be held on September 21.
Last week, he submitted his resignation papers as member of the Cabinet following his decision to contest in the polls.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
