Prison superintendent Emil Ranjan Lamahewa who was arrested in connection with the Welikada prison shooting that killed 27 inmates in 2012, has been further remanded until January 08.
The order was issued when the case was heard before the Colombo Chief Magistrate earlier today (Jan 01).
Lamahewa has filed a petition at the Court of Appeal seeking a release on bail, following today's court order.
Meanwhile, former Police Inspector of the Police Narcotics Bureau, Neomal Rangajeewa has been released on bail after being accused of involvement in the incident.
Officials of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had informed court today that further investigations will be carried out in this regard.
