The number of confirmed deaths due to the adverse weather has risen to eight while seven others have been injured, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said. As per the DMC's situation report issued at 9.00am today (22), 38, 046 persons from 9817 families had been affected by the weather.
The number of affected is highest in the Ratnapura district, with 13,033. Gampaha district comes second with 6780 affected while 5852 have been affected in the Puttalam district.
The number of displaced persons has risen to 6090. They are from 1625 families. The displaced are being housed at 80 camps.
Nineteen houses have been completely destroyed while 918 others have suffered partial damage due to the weather. The DMC's report notes that three small and medium enterprises have suffered damage while five instances of damage to critical infrastructure has also been reported.
