The Education Ministry has decided to offer a Rs 500 allowance per session of a vocational training course for a Grade 13 student.
Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam noted that this initiative would take place under the 13 years compulsory education programme of the government.
Accordingly, students who have failed to meet the required qualifications to sit for the G C E Advanced Level Examination will be able to continue their education under this project.
However, these students would have to attend vocational training courses as well, the Minister said.
He explained that the Ministry will begin issuing these allowances for 800 students this month, while this figure is expected to increase upto 2500.
