Nearly 100 acres of land was destroyed in a fire that erupted in a forest reserve in Kotabakma, Koslanda last morning.
Police, wildlife officers, and army personnel attached to the Diyatalwa army camp had taken swift measures to douse the fire along with the assistance of area residents.
No casualties have been reported so far, police said adding that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, around four acres of land was destroyed in a mountain located in close proximity to a temple in Monaragala.
The fire was contained by the police, Monaragala Disaster Management Unit, army personnel and area residents, Police Spokesman S.P Ruwan Gunasekara noted.
Monaragala police are investigating further.
