Western Province Governor Azath Salley yesterday (May 24) requested the National Security Council to immediately stop the continuous search operations at mosques.
"The people cant bear this situation. The Police is disrespectful to the Muslims. The Army isn't treating them properly and even throwing the Qurans (during searches)," the Governor alleged during a news conference.
He cautioned that this would result in an adverse situation should these search operations continue to take place.
The Governor proceeded to explain that there was no need to conduct multiple searches on mosques during separate occasions.
He added that the security forces must combine and carry out a joint search at a time instead of carrying out separate searches that inconvenience the people.
