President's Counsel Kalinga Indatissa was elected as President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) for the year 2019/2020 as he obtained 4702 votes at the conclusion of the BASL voting today (Feb 20).
Attorney Mahinda Lokuge who was also a contender for the top post managed to accumulate only 1346 votes.
Meanwhile, Attorney Kaushalya Navaratne was elected as BASL Secretary as she garnered a total of 5054 votes while defeating her opponent Attorney Saman Weligama who could only muster 898 votes.
The electing of a new President and Secretary for the year 2019/2020 of the BASL got underway at 8 am and concluded at 5 pm today (Feb 20).
Accordingly, voting was held at 83 voting centers around the island including Colombo.
At this year's election, President's Counsel Kalinga Indatissa and former BASL Secretary, attorney Mahinda Lokuge contested for the post of President. While Attorneys Kaushalya Nanayakkara and Saman Welianga contested for the position of secretary.
