The Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered the management of the BMICH to pay Rs. 180 million in compensation to young Dr. Samitha Samanmali who was paralyzed following the collapse of a shelter at the Deyata Kirula exhibition in 2008.
Samanmali who was a medical student at the time sustained severe injuries in the accident on February 15, 2008 at the BMICH when she was involved in the organising of stalls to be set up for a medical exhibition.
Samanmali in December 2010 appeared in the Colombo District Court claiming Rs. 50 million as compensation from the BMICH.
